Trip Planning

A good trip plan allows plenty of flexibility to cope with changing weather and sea conditions. The abilities of  group members need to be considered as well.  Allow time for unforeseen things to happen!

Many times, customers have given us feedback, saying  they were so pleased to have paddled from Tata Beach towards Marahau (at the southern end of the Abel Tasman National Park).  They all say that the northern end of the Abel Tasman was the highlight of their trip, from Tata Beach to Onetahuti.

One way rentals are available. We can arrange to pick up the kayaks from Totaranui or Marahau.  There is charge for this service.

The Abel Tasman takes approx 11-13hrs paddle time for the entire length. We recommend to enjoy the experience you should take 3 days or have a more in-depth  experience, allow 4-5 days.

*** TAUPO POINT OVERNIGHT SPECIAL

PLEASE be at our base in Tata Beach at 8.30am on the day of your trip.

*** MULTI DAY TRIPS - PLEASE be at our base in Tata Beach at 3pm THE DAY BEFORE YOUR TRIP for briefing.

The following are suggestions only.

2 Day adventure in the Abel Tasman National Park

Option 2. A 2 day trip for those with a little more time.  A real Abel Tasman Experience and the best 2 day trip in the Abel Tasman National Park.

Paddle around Separation Point, spend time with the large seal colony here and stay the night at Mutton Cove, watching the baby seals play in the surf in front of your campsite.  Spend the next day exploring the historic and beautiful Awaroa inlet. The pick up is from Totaranui, this is a 40 minute drive back to Tata Beach.

Because you will be paddling around Separation Point you will be required to attend a more comprehensive safety briefing which will take approx 1.5hrs.

*** MULTI DAY TRIPS - PLEASE be at our base in Tata Beach at 3pm THE DAY BEFORE YOUR TRIP for briefing.

3 Day adventure in the Abel Tasman National Park:

Option 1. You have time to do one of the top 10 kayaking trips in the world? The full length of the Abel Tasman National Park is where it is at.  This trip has been described as 'natural rejuvenation for the soul'.

Option 2. A nice 3 day trip to experience the Northern end of the Abel Tasman is to stay at Mutton Cove the first night and then cruise down to the stunning Waiharakeke beach.  Explore the Awaroa area and get picked up from Totaranui that afternoon.

Both of these options will require a full safety briefing which will take 2.5-3hrs, there is no extra charge for the briefing.

*** MULTI DAY TRIPS - PLEASE be at our base in Tata Beach at 3pm THE DAY BEFORE YOUR TRIP for briefing.

4 Day lounge around in the Abel Tasman...why not?

Experience the Abel Tasman at leisure.  The kayaks have plenty of space for food so take your time and paddle the full length of the park and get picked up from Marahau or Kaiteriteri.

Department of Conservation (DOC) camp passes are required for camping in Abel Tasman Park. These need to be pre-booked (cost $15/adult and $7.50/child/night). Be sure to read and understand the cancellation policy before paying.
