Richies’ Top Spot was won with a video produced by Alexandra Richards, the mihi was delivered by Kye Bateup ki Mohua ahu.
The perfect day. It started with Mitt from Adventure flights http://www.adventureflightsgoldenbay.co.nz picking Richie up from the Nelson Airport. Breathtaking views as the Abel Tasman National Park unfolded below as the plane travelled to the Takaka Aerodrome.
Tata Beach, home to Golden Bay Kayaks. Richie, a keen kayaker himself, was pretty happy with the morning on the water with crew, but not before a game of touch rugby on the beach with some of the lads from Kye’s rugby team. The morning was fuelled by our local food artisan Jill Burrell at Delish Delicatessen https://www.facebook.com/delish.delicatessen
Kayaking around the Tata Islands, checking out the seals, paddling through the archway on a pristine calm water…pretty close to paradise Richie reckons.
Lunchtime for the crew at Totos cafe. https://www.facebook.com/totoscafepizzeria This amazing spot high on the hill above Wainui Bay is the perfect spot to sit and eat pizza from the handcrafted wood fired pizza oven, with the backdrop of the beautifully created mud brick building that houses the cafe.
No time to sit still… Mountain biking down the Historic Rameka track. This is a trail re-opened by a group of hardy locals, it is an old bridle track that was used to walk the cattle up to the Canaan Downs for grazing. The track is an intermediate family trail and super fun. Richie, who doesn’t claim to be much of a mountain biker, had his bike well under control and looked like the pro that he is.
It is game on between Kye and Richie who will catch the first fish at Anatoki Salmon. A popular spot for families and those that love catching and eating salmon. https://www.anatokisalmon.co.nz It was a pretty exciting competition between the two blokes and the size of the fish gets bigger every day.
A very tired Richie McCaw gets on the Adventure Flights plane to fly back to Nelson…
Richie you chose Golden Bay as your top spot. You really are a wonderful human being… New Zealand’s favourite son
