Senior Sea Kayak Guide
We are looking for a Senior Sea Kayak Guide to join our small team, starting late December/January and finishing end of April 2025. There is an expectation that there is a commitment for this period.
There is furnished accommodation available.
The position is suitable for someone who:
Has had several years experience in the Outdoor Industry, a passion for people, the environment, understands weather and is comfortable kayaking and adapting to changeable conditions and a desire to seek new challenges.
The role includes guiding and base operations, safety instruction, cleaning of boats and general duties.
Seeks a desire for more responsibility, day to day operations, supporting a small team while ‘on the job’. The job does involve heavy lifting, following through with tasks and happy and positive engagement with customers.
A passion to learn about the area, knowledge about the Abel Tasman and the Golden Bay Area is an advantage.
Before you apply you will need:
A current First Aid Certificate or PHEC
Sea Kayak Qualifications from NZ or International
Valid visa/work permit if you are from overseas
To be able to work with a small team and love people

What to expect as a Sea Kayak Guide and Base Operations
Golden Bay Kayaks offers Guided Tours, Freedom Rentals and Stand Up Paddle Boards. We also have a reputation for the best coffee at Tata Beach and a popular spot to grab an ice cream.
For this position we are looking for a sea kayak guide and/or base operations.
For base operations you are required to
ensure the client is signed in,
life jackets are fitted correctly
a safety briefing is given to ensure the client has the best experience.
Being able to make a coffee is an advantage. On the job training available.
For sea kayak guide:
Preferably already has experience in the industry and has had experience sea kayak guiding.
Has knowledge or a desire to learn about NZ flora and fauna and has a passion for the outdoors.
Has an understanding of the weather and have sound knowledge of sea conditions.
Empathy for others and a desire to deliver an excellent product, with a can-do attitude
Be physically fit and be able to lift a sea kayak.
Preferably already have Sea Kayak Qualifications, not essential.
Competent in the sea kayak and be able to paddle a boat.
Be able to and be confident to self-rescue and rescue a double
Be able to roll a sea kayak and back into the upright position
Happy to display a surf landing and guide clients
Have a First Aid Qualification
If applying from overseas, a valid work visa.
For the suitable candidate:
On the job training and support.
Shared rental accomodation is available that is close to the base at Tata Beach
